POLICYsplain

Our Methodology

How we read
your policy.

PolicySplain applies a structured analytical framework — the CLEAR framework — to the insurance policy you upload. Every finding is drawn from the actual language in your document. Nothing is assumed, invented, or generalized from other policies.

Important — What This Report Is and Isn't

CLEAR Report grades and findings reflect PolicySplain's analytical framework applied to standard coverage benchmarks. They are not a professional coverage determination, a legal opinion, or a carrier product rating.

PolicySplain is an educational document analysis tool. We explain what your policy says. We do not determine whether a specific claim would be covered, represent you in any insurance matter, or provide legal advice. For questions about your specific coverage or claim, consult a licensed insurance professional or attorney.

The CLEAR Framework

C

Coverage

What your policy actually covers — confirmed from the declarations page and insuring agreements. Not what the summary says. What the contract says.

L

Limits

Every coverage limit, sub-limit, and aggregate cap. Compared against standard benchmarks to flag where your limits may not match real-world exposure.

E

Exclusions

Every exclusion that applies to your coverage type. Surfaced and explained in plain English, with the exact policy section cited.

A

Adjustments

Depreciation methods, deductible structures, valuation clauses, and endorsements that modify your coverage or payout. The fine print that changes the numbers.

R

Risk

Structural gaps, missing endorsements, and coverage combinations that create exposure — flagged before claim time, not after.

The Grading System

Each CLEAR section receives a score and letter grade. Grades reflect how a policy performs against standard coverage benchmarks for its type — not a rating of the carrier or a determination of whether a specific claim would be paid.

A

Strong coverage — meets or exceeds standard benchmarks

B

Adequate coverage — minor gaps or areas to review

C

Moderate gaps — several areas warrant attention

D

Significant gaps — coverage below standard benchmarks

F

Critical gaps — material coverage deficiencies identified

What We Analyze

The full policy PDF you upload — declarations page, insuring agreements, conditions, exclusions, and endorsements

Standard coverage benchmarks for your policy type and state

Common exclusion patterns and sublimit structures for your coverage category

We do not access carrier systems, claims databases, or any information beyond your uploaded document

We do not determine whether a specific claim would be covered — that is a legal and contractual question for your carrier and, if disputed, an attorney

Every finding is cited

Every finding in your CLEAR Report references the exact section, page, and language from your uploaded policy. If we can't find it in your document, we don't report it. This is what separates a PolicySplain CLEAR Report from a generic AI summary.
